The Sylvania Franciscan Foundation Fund, via Greater Toledo Community Foundation (GTCF), has awarded a grant to Zepf Center for $50,000. These funds will support Zepf Center Safety Net, the only shelter serving runaway and homeless youth in Northwest Ohio.

As temperatures drop and the holiday season approaches, housing instability can become an even greater issue for vulnerable youth. This funding arrives at a critical moment, helping Zepf Center continue to provide temporary emergency shelter and mental health services to eligible youth who have run away, been forced to leave their home, or are experiencing homelessness. Safety Net operates 24/7, 365 days per year to ensure area youth always have a safe and secure place to stay.

“Every year, the shelter admits hundreds of local youth,” said Manager of Youth Runaway and Homeless Services Charles Green. “This program is critical for young people and gives them a place where they can feel secure, access support, and begin building a path forward.”

For youth ages 12–24 who are not staying onsite, the Safety Net drop-in center remains open every Monday and Wednesday from noon–5 p.m. There, youth can take a hot shower, do laundry, access hygiene products, enjoy a warm meal, and connect with community resources.

In addition to the shelter and drop-in center, Zepf Center provides a wide range of youth mental health and crisis services. Through its integrated, person-centered care model, Zepf Center remains dedicated to creating hope and recovery for clients of every age.

“The winter months can be especially dangerous for youth without a safe place to stay,” said Senior Director of Crisis Services, Courtney Burrow. “Safety Net ensures that our community’s young people have somewhere to turn, whether they need shelter, urgent behavioral healthcare, or a caring team ready to help them take the next step.”

Zepf Center is accepting donations to fund programs like Safety Net as they continue to serve the surrounding community. To donate, visit zepfcenter.org/landing/donate/. For more information about available youth services, visit zepfcenter.org.
