Bridges to Recovery: Wellness & Accessible Recovery Support

Published Thursday, October 5, 2023

Building on Zepf Center’s unique integrated care model, participants in the new Bridges to Recovery (BTR) program will focus on overall wellness while providing access to necessary recovery support services. These supportive services and resources are vital to help individuals as they overcome barriers in their recovery.

The BTR program is made possible at Zepf Center by a recent $300,000 award from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. This program will serve 100 individuals aged 21 and over with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) or Co-Occurring Disorder (COD) in need of recovery support services (RSS) in Lucas County.

The program will focus on serving Zepf Center Recovery House residents to expand integrated services through a holistic service approach. The BTR program will help individuals develop skills and create access to the following recovery support services:

  • Nutrition and Exercise for Wellness and Recovery (NEW-R) groups will provide education and guidance on healthy eating practices and meal preparations.
  • Exercise Wellness activities will include structured instruction on safe and healthy exercise techniques while providing access to new gym equipment purchased with grant funds.
  • Financial Coaching sessions will assist individuals as they develop a personal budget and increase their financial literacy.
  • Whole Health Action Management (WHAM) groups will provide evidenced-based, recovery-focused groups that help individuals develop effective coping mechanisms for stress and anxiety.
  • Education and Training supports will assist individuals in exploring educational and vocational training opportunities that improve employability and social connectedness.
  • Individual Job Placement and Supports will provide vocational counseling and job placement assistance into employment that matches individuals' interests and skill sets.
  • Family Support groups will provide family members of individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder information on community treatment and recovery support opinions while also providing encouragement and support to the family.

These recovery-focused services will be provided at Zepf Center’s Health and Wellness Center, Recovery House campus and the Ashland Avenue Treatment Center.

Additionally, the BTR program will use Assertive Outreach and Engagement practices that ensure the individual receives appropriate treatment while having access to the necessary recovery supports mentioned above. This integrated care approach will provide a pathway to a healthy, happy and hopeful future for participating individuals.
