Zepf Center Explores and Applies Wellness Through Eight Dimensions

Wellness is all about how we live our lives and the joy, fulfillment and health we experience as a result. For those seeking improved wellness on their recovery journey, Zepf Center Wellness provides specific, individualized programs at several locations to define, meet and exceed client wellness goals.

Zepf Center weekly groups are designed to empower participants with practical coping skills they may apply in their day-to-day lives. This supports their independence and enables them to continue applying these skills even when they are no longer participating in Wellness groups. The effective interventions provided in these groups are not just applicable during their treatment but will become lifelong habits to sustain a healthy lifestyle.

Assisting clients with physical exercise, healthy eating, socialization opportunities and more, Zepf Center’s Wellness team uses the Eight Dimensions of Wellness to care for the client’s full spectrum of wellness needs.

As defined by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Eight Dimensions of Wellness include the emotional, physical, occupational, intellectual, financial, social, environmental, and spiritual parts of our lives. SAMHSA emphasizes that these dimensions are interconnected, with one dimension building on another.

Wellness can take a backseat when one dimension is interrupted or impacted by a life event. For example, worrying about money can often lead to anxiety. Anxiety can lead to medical issues which affect physical wellness and issues at work that impact occupational wellness. Problems at work may lead to fewer opportunities to be social and may even result in changes to someone's living situation, affecting their environmental wellness.

Because the Dimensions of Wellness are deeply interconnected, Zepf Center Wellness develops programs dedicated to improving and maintaining each dimension of wellness. Even groups such as Adult Fitness, NEW-R (Nutrition and Exercise) and Yoga for Stress Relief, which seem to target only one dimension of wellness, are carefully crafted to ensure each client's physical, mental and spiritual needs are met.

Clients who participate in physical exercise programs through Zepf Center also report improvements in their mental health, as they feel more connected and supported by the group members and staff. Often, this allows them to experience a better quality of life and find fulfillment through their newly improved health.

At Zepf Center, Wellness groups are constantly evolving to meet the needs of the clients served. Whether to supplement a recovery journey, reengage in physical activity or find a supportive community, Zepf Center Wellness is dedicated to joy, fulfillment and health for all.

For current Zepf Center clients, participation in Wellness groups begins with a referral from any of their Zepf providers. Non-clients must attend walk-in hours at Zepf Center Ashland (2005 Ashland Ave.) from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday but have the option to participate in a “wellness-only” intake process.
