TMS Therapy

TMS therapy is a non-drug therapy that is proven safe and effective to treat Major Depression Disorder when medications no longer work.

Zepf Center is pleased to be able to now provide NeuroStar® Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy (TMS) an innovative, FDA approved treatment for individuals living with Major Depressive Disorder.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, drug free treatment for individuals living with Major Depressive Disorder who have not found improvement for their symptoms with traditional treatment (medications). It has none of the side effects commonly associated with antidepressants such as memory loss, weight gain, daytime sleepiness, dry mouth, and sexual dysfunction. TMS involves the use of a very short pulsed magnetic field to stimulate nerve cells in the regions of the brain known to affect mood. This outpatient procedure is performed at our Ashland facility under a NeuroStar® clinician's supervision while the patient remains awake and alert.

During NeuroStar® TMS Therapy the treating physician positions the treatment coil over the area of the brain known to affect mood, the left prefrontal cortex. Through the treatment coil the NeuroStar® System generates a highly focused, pulsed magnetic field, similar in type and strength to those produced by a MRI machines in order to stimulate cortical neurons. Repeated activation of the left prefrontal cortex is shown to produce antidepressant effects in those individuals living with major depression.

Each in-office treatment takes around 40 minutes to complete. Patients receive the therapy 5 days a week for 4-6 weeks. During treatment the patient remains awake and alert and once that day's treatment is completed they can resume their normal activities immediately.

TMS therapy is available only with a prescription. For current Zepf Center patients interested in TMS therapy, please reach out to your current medical provider. If you are not a Zepf Center clients please contact our Intake Department to schedule an Intake assessment, 419-841-7701 Ext. 7818.
