A Benefits Specialist meets with a consumer to gather data of all current income, subsidies and expenses. In that initial meeting, a general explanation of how wages will affect the person’s specific benefits is given. Information on Social Security Work Incentives is provided also. Releases will be obtained to contact agencies for clarification of information needed to complete consultation. A monthly budget will be developed to itemize income and expenses at various levels of work activity (each person makes preferences towards certain wages, part-time or full-time work, and medical coverage needs). A comprehensive report and budget are presented to the individual.
JOB SEEKING SKILLS TRAINING
The focus is on teaching techniques for getting jobs. Consumer are taught interviewing skills (may include a video-taped mock interview), resume preparation, letter writing, labor market information, organization of job search, phone contacting with real employers, and follow up on job search activities. A professional resume printed for consumer as part of the service.
Staff arranges and accompanies consumer to worksite tours. Tours, including informational interviewing and observation, are chosen based on consumer’s vocational interests. Informational Interview Questionnaire forms will be completed.
