Elizabeth A. Zepf Foundation
First Annual Tennis Fundraiser
Zepf Center held its first annual tennis fundraiser on February 1, 2008, at Laurel Hill Swim and Tennis Club. Over 100 people attended the event showing their support for the Zepf Center and mental health recovery and vocational development in our community. The event included tennis for all levels, a silent auction, door prizes, 50/50 raffle, hors d’oeuvres, and a DJ from Jim Lieber’s Sounds of Music.
Mark Faber, Director of Tennis at Laurel Hill, helped us with the planning of the event by organizing the tennis, gathering items for the silent auction, and soliciting other tennis pros, Craig Walters, Kim Pacella, Lisa Bialorucki, Jesse Puckerin, Suzie Miller, Sean Dixon, Chris Sanford, and Kevin Williamson to volunteer their time and talents.
The tennis activities included doubles drills, cardio tennis, a fast serve contest, and a 1 point tournament. Chris Aemisegger (from Eastman and Smith) and Jay Malcolm (from Huntington Bank) tied for first place at 92 mph in the men’s division of the fast serve contest. Bob Tomason (from Henry Gurtzweiler, Inc.) came in second at 82 MPH. In the women’s division first place went to Susan Rudolph at 79 mph and in second place was Janet Daniels at 73 mph. The winner of the 1 point tournament was Ethel Parker with second going to Chris Aemisegger.
The goal of the event was to build recognition for Zepf Center and mental health and vocational awareness in the community. Not only was that goal accomplished, but everyone had a wonderful time and we raised $7,100 for the Elizabeth A. Zepf Foundation! Thank you to Pat and Annette Birney and the staff at Laurel Hill Swim and Tennis Club for their support and use of their facility. Laurel Hill Swim and Tennis Club has been under the ownership of Pat Birney for 35 years and offers family programming specializing in swimming and tennis at one of the finest family clubs in Toledo.
