The Zepf Center is repeating its very successful fundraiser Don’t Skirt the Issue – Help” on Friday, October 19that the Zepf Community Center, 2272 Collingwood Blvd. All proceeds are directed towards developing housing specifically for mothers, allowing them to continue working on their recovery without being separated from their children, the #1 reason why women leave treatment.   Last year almost $30,000 was raised for this project.

“Don’t Skirt the Issue – Help” is an evening of music, friends and fun at the Zepf Community Center featuring T-City Groove and Guy in the 419 - Pat McCarty. Emcees for the evening include Fred LeFebvre 1370 WSPD. Honorary Chairmen are Chris Fedele, Kellie Holeman and Barbara Hendel.

Read one woman’s story: For a many years, when people hear about the city of Toledo, they think of a nice place to live and do business.  Unfortunately, now when you say Toledo many think of heroin and illicit drugs.  Unfortunately, Ohio happens to be number one in the country for heroin related deaths with 4,050 in 2016, an increase of 1000 in just one year.

Here in the Toledo area, Karen Freiberger is trying to come up with ideas to remedy some of this problem.  She has joined in this fight against heroin for several personal reasons.  She is the mother of two children.  Her son is an F-18 aviator in the Marine Corps and her beautiful daughter is a 10 year heroin addict (currently in recovery).  They both come from the same middle class upbringing and yet chose such different path. Because of this she feels the need to battle this horrible drug to help save the community in which she lives – it is dedicated volunteers such as this that assist in the war against opioids.

The event features food from area restaurants, including Ciao, Real Seafood, Saba’s Bistro,LaScola, The Pinnacle, Libardo’s and Manhattan’s. Desserts are being planned by women in recovery.  Amazing gifts are lined up for the live and silent auctions including a trip to Turks and Caico’s, an apartment in France, sailing cruises, dinner and wine tasting at The Pinnacle.Tickets are $60.00 each - for tickets or more information, please visit www.zepfcenter.org or call 419-841-7701 ext. 2296.
